~Dedicated to all those who live with Bipolar Disorder every day~
I created this blog in order to better inform myself about the disorder. Researching and just being aware of the various triggers and symptoms may help people living with Bipolar Disorder to better cope with it.
Another reason for creating this blog is the unfortunate reality that such mental illnesses are often stigmatized. I’ve read posts and comments on different forums that dispel Bipolar Disorder as a fake illness created by people who don’t have the courage to face the consequences of their own actions.
For this very reason, spreading awareness about brain disorders and mental illnesses especially Bipolar Disorder is essential. We can only ease the silent suffering through support and awareness.
Why should you wear a Silver Ribbon?
- To show you care about someone with a brain disorder or disability
- To help break down the barriers to treatment and support
- To help eliminate the stigma against those who suffer
- To show you believe there is HOPE through education and research

Wow. What an honor. :D Your welcome! By the way, could I know why are you so concerned with Bipolar?

Oh, I thought it was rather obvious. I’ve been living with Bipolar for 7 years. I’ve realized just recently how its wrecking my entire life and relationships.
To be honest, there’s a very selfish reason in it for me. I just want a way to stay focussed during the highs and the lows. Maintaining something that requires me to do some positive work on a regular basis and learning more about Bipolar seemed like a good idea. I want to continually assess my mood swings and cycling while creating whatever little bit of awareness I can at the same time so that others like me don’t put off treatment for so long and suffer like I have. Well, that’s about it, really :)

7 years? So, actually people were not born with it..?This’s new for me! Gosh, it’s amazing to realize that a person with Bipolar could actually be normal like anybody else..? I used to have a different perspective on people with brain disorder and all that. Could you tell me more about your life? If we could be friends, probably? :D I’ve read some of your latest posts. Well, it’s pretty hard for me get it, by the way, since it’s not a common thing in my country.

I’ve tried to research the causes a lot. There is definitely a genetic link. You’re basically born with certain ‘problematic’ set of genes, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that you will end up having Bipolar. It then depends on your life conditions and stress factors to set you off.
It’s quite confusing, as they haven’t yet figured out properly. You can read about the causes more on: http://silverribbon.wordpress.com/causes/

I see. So it’s sort of like a phenotype in one side. Curable, right? Thank you so much. :) Great work!

It’s not curable, but treatable and manageable -YES. It’s much like living with Diabetes. Self-management through meds, therapy, support groups, even blogging or keeping in connection with oneself helps keep you balanced and lead a full life.
